How does poseidon hinder odysseus

There are two stories that tell how he did this. The first says that he fell in love with the goddess Demeter. While Athena, Zeus, and Helios all show anger at some point in the story, Poseidon is the primary antagonist. Poseidon was moody by nature: his temperament was unstable at best, and his emotional fluctuations often resulted in violence.

And that is why the two immortals hate each other. Why does the Cyclops hate Odysseus so much? The Cyclops hates Odysseus because it is in their nature, and Odysseus stabbed him in the eye. Describe Scylla and Charybdis. In this way, Poseidon is seen to be a very direct god in that he instantly causes problems for Odysseus himself instead of working through other means like Athena. TritonTriton, in Greek mythology, a merman, demigod of the sea; he was the son of the sea god, Poseidon, and his wife, Amphitrite.

According to the Greek poet Hesiod, Triton dwelt with his parents in a golden palace in the depths of the sea. Poseidon was furious with Odysseus and his crew because they blinded his son, the cyclops Polyphemus. Odysseus made his escape but, in his pride, he turned and taunted Polyphemos with cruel insults.

Poseidon hates the Trojans because a King of Troy called Laomedon cheated Poseidon and Apollo out of the payment for the work they had done building the walls of Troy. Poseidon was the god of the sea and horses. Poseidon was furious with Odysseus and his crew because they blinded his son, the cyclops Polyphemus. Poseidon can be very ruthless, moody and vengeful. He hated being a subservient to his much more prominent brother, Zeus, and always looked for ways to upstage him. He does not like Athena either, for her arrogance, and disdains the goddess.

The god Helios threatens that he will stop the sun from shining if his anger is not appeased at this violation, so Zeus sends down thunderbolts that destroy all but Odysseus, just as Circe had warned.

According to tradition that appears outside of the Iliad, Hera and Athene were angry with the Trojan Paris and therefore all Trojans because Paris chose Aphrodite as the most beautiful goddess instead of one of them. Charybdis, the daughter of the sea god Pontus and the earth goddess Gaia, was a deadly whirlpool. Three times a day, Charybdis would pull in and push out water with such force that ships would be sunk.

Circe lifts the magical ban on the island and Athena comes to get Telemachus to make him the king of his own kingdom. Poseidon was justifiably not happy to learn that his son had suffered in this way, which made him hate Odysseus even more. After Homer invoked the muses at the beginning of the Odyssey , the poet mentioned that Poseidon had a grudge against Odysseus, which made his journey home to Ithaca difficult. Although it took ten years, he finally did return to his home and to his wife and son.
