Adventurer professions fight from the traditional mid-line. They all possess a good mix of ranged weapons, and are otherwise flexible combatants. They wear medium armor. Able to bring dozens of abilities and toolbelt skills to a fight, their art is in choosing the right one to utilize at the perfect time. Masters of mechanical mayhem, engineers deploy engineering kits and turrets to mix up the battlefield. The engineer's profession mechanic is the tool belt - each healing , utility or elite skill adds a skill to this belt, providing them with added utility when it is needed most.

Rounding out their arsenal with traps, nature spirits, and survival skills, they have the tools to take on any type of foe. Rangers are masters of their natural surroundings, and use a versatile set of skills to hunt their enemies. The rangers are also accompanied by their trusted pets , fighting in unison with their own set of pet skills to pick off their enemies one by one.

What they lack in defense, they make up for with skills to debilitate, teleport, or vanish from sight. Thieves use their initiative to fuel their weapon skills , dishing out quick chains of damage before slipping away into the shadows with stealth. The other part of their specialty is stealing - each enemy has a number of items which provide stolen skills to the thief to turn the fight. Scholar professions are the least durable fighters in direct combat, possessing only light armor.

Elementalists have access to more weapon skills than any other class, which makes them difficult to pick up but rewarding to master. The Tempest elite specialization turns elementalists into resilient group supports. The Weaver elite specialization focuses more on damage and dueling and requires players to quickly chain different elements together. Engineers are jacks of all trades. They have more utility skills than any other class, regardless of role, which lets them find the right tool for any situation.

While anyone can perform reasonably well on Engineer, the deeper you dive into Engineer's bag of tricks, the more rewarding you'll find playing Engineer to be. The Scrapper elite specialization turns engineers into tanky supports with strong damage mitigation. In contrast, the Holosmith elite specialization is capable of high damage output and significant cleave.

Guardians excel at defensive support. Regardless of their role, they have good off-healing and numerous utility skills that shield their party members from attacks. Guardians are easy to pick up and solid in every game mode, making them a good class for new players. The Dragonhunter elite specialization turns guardians into skirmishers with mobility and burst damage. The Firebrand elite specialization grants a plethora of support skills, and can be built for damage or healing.

More than any other class, mesmers break the rules. They can teleport and stealth their party, become invulnerable, and rewind their ability cooldowns. Skilled mesmers are wanted in every group regardless of game mode, as they open up entire new strategies with the utility that only a mesmer can provide.

The Chronomancer elite specialization enhances the supportive capabilities of mesmers, allowing them to buff themselves and their party members. The Mirage elite specialization focuses on clones, dueling, and damage. Necromancers weaken their enemies and grind them down. Guild Wars 2 offers its players nine Basic professions to choose from, and then further two elite professions available for each basic one at a level 80 one of them requires the Path of Fire expansion pack, and the second comes with the Heart of Thorns expansion pack.

None of the professions are Gender-locked, and all of them can perform a multitude of combat-related tasks, like Supporting, Damage Dealing, and Controlling engagements.

Every profession has its specific traits and flavors that are expressed in the unique mechanics, effects, and skill types. It is worth noting that once selected, the profession cannot be changed.
